The draft proposals, put forth by the Consell d’Eivissa, would ratify a prevention on all new licenses for nightclubs on the White Isle.
According to a report from Periódico de Ibiza, Mariano Juan, the vice president of the Consell d’Eivissa, which acts as Ibiza’s self-governing council, announced the plans during a PIAT (Plan for Intervention in Tourist Areas) plenary session that was held on July 26.
“The proposal aims to contain the existing nightlife,” Juan said during the session. “We believe there is already enough nightlife in certain areas and no more licenses should be granted.”
At the plenary session, Juan noted how the nightlife culture in Ibiza is nothing to be ashamed about and is a key driver in the island’s economy.
Elena López, who acts as a representative for the Ibiza wing of Spanish socialist party the PSOE, agreed with Juan’s suggestion, adding that Ibiza “has become one enormous party venue. This model has gotten out of hand, and there’s no room for families in it.”
The plan is set for approval in the coming weeks as the existing framework for the island’s tourism regulations expires at the end of 2026. The ban would formalise a policy of freezing venue and club licenses, which is already effectively in place in many of the nightlife destination’s districts, across the whole island, with a notable exception being Sant Josep.
