Last week, Dobar House released the first edition by Anja Dominic, a 19-year-old DJ and producer who has been active on the scene for two years. Even though she has become a resident for Tom Bug‘s label and clubnight brand, Anja continues to explore her sound, and her latest EP is great proof of that. We asked her to share the process of creating the Deluge EP and what it means for her sound.
“The idea for the EP came about quite spontaneously. Both tracks, ‘Deluge’ and ‘Lightroom’, actually started as an attempt to make something that I would like, without sounding too similar to anything else in the genre. I worked on them in parallel, and they are based on a manipulated sample that runs through practically the entire track, while the other elements and instruments gradually build up towards the end”, Anja explained, adding that the tracks seemed strange to her at the beginning. She did not plan to release them, but towards the end, everything fell into place. “Plus, there were Arya P and Dvornykova who gave me an extra push and told me to just release them, even if I didn’t like them, so whatever happens, will happen”, she said about the process.

Even though one might expect more classic house sound, Anja was set to explore other subgenres that she likes and attempted to bridge.
“I don’t have a sound of my own at the moment, and I’m still looking for it, but I think, and I hope, that I’m on the trail of something. I really like that sound of minimal and groovy house, so I’d like to aim for a similar sound, but with my own touch in it”, she concluded, adding that she will release at least one more EP by the end of the year, and hopefully more. Deluge EP is now available on all streaming platforms.
