Jan Martinović, also known as Martiny, was born in Split but grew up in Palma de Mallorca, where he was first introduced to the electronic music scene. His father introduced him to the world of house music, and by the age of 13, he had already attended his first party featuring Erick Morillo. With over 20 years of experience in the electronic music scene, primarily in the hospitality sector, Martiny has also worked as an event organizer. This has given him the opportunity to meet many renowned figures in the industry, such as Vintage Culture, Artbat, and David Penn, among others.
He began DJing during the COVID pandemic: “We would gather at friends’ houses and started practicing on mixers,” he said. His first gig was in Dubrovnik in 2023, and he has since performed on Hvar Island. Of all his sets, he highlights a 12-hour performance at Cima Bar on the island of Å unj as his favorite so far.
Martiny’s style is a blend of minimal deep tech, groove, and tech house. You can listen to his mix, prepared for the INSITE guestmix series, on our SoundCloud:
INSITE: If you could have a drink with any DJ or producer, who would it be?
Martiny: I’ve had the chance to be around many DJs and producers, but the ultimate experience would be having a drink with Carl Cox. He’s an inspiration to everyone in the house music scene.
