On Friday, April 4, Marina Viculin Award winner Ivan Buvinić presented ID_75 at Rijeka’s Kortil Gallery. The photography exhibition arrived in Rijeka after being showcased at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb as part of the Organ Vida festival.

Buvinić received the Marina Viculin Award for ID_75 in recognition of his outstanding achievements in contemporary photography in Croatia.
This series of photographs was created over the past few years during the artist’s return visits to his hometown of Šibenik, as he confronted both familiar and repressed memories. The exhibition’s title, ID_75, hints at its deeply personal nature—it is an abbreviation of the address where Buvinić once lived.

With a desire for self-reflection, Buvinić captured images of symbolic objects such as a soccer goal, barbed wire, and a torn T-shirt, representing lived experiences and the process of growing up. In doing so, he has built an archive of fragmented memories. The atmosphere of the photographs, along with the choice of motifs and color palette, suggests possible meanings and invites viewers to recognize their own emotional responses.

As exhibition curator and foreword author Lea Vene explains, “This work affirms unsettling memories, which then transform into an urban nighttime contemplation, subtly revealing personal and spatial transgressions.”
As part of the exhibition’s accompanying program, a new edition of Conversations on Photography—an informal gathering and discussion on various topics in contemporary photography—will be held on Wednesday, April 16. The exhibition will remain open until April 25.
Ivan Buvinić was born in 1994 in Šibenik and graduated in photography from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. In 2022, he became a member of the European photography platform Futures Photography. His artistic practice is rooted in autobiographical experiences, often intertwining themes of memory, personal history, and imagination. He has held several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. He currently works as an assistant lecturer at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka and as a freelance photographer.

The exhibition in Rijeka can be visited during Kortil Gallery’s opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10 AM to 1 PM and from 5 PM to 8 PM, and on Saturdays from 10 AM to 1 PM. Admission is free for all visitors.
