Have you seen Sirāt? The film for which director Oliver Laxe organized a real multi-day rave in the middle of the Moroccan desert for the shoot.
“We organized a real rave. Everyone knew they were being filmed. The music didn’t stop for days. At some point, I felt we had enough footage,” Laxe told Interview Magazine.
The Spanish film has received excellent reviews and numerous awards so far, including the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, eleven nominations at the 40th Goya Awards, and a nomination for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards.
The story follows a father, Luis, and his son, Esteban, as they search for daughter Mar, who disappeared while partying at a Moroccan rave. For the filming, Laxe enlisted lifelong ravers as extras for the free party scenes.
The movie’s music was composed by electronic musician David Letellier, known professionally as Kangding Ray. The soundtrack was later released on the Invada Records label.
So far, the film has been screened in Zagreb at Kino Tuškanac and Kinoholik, but there are currently no upcoming screenings announced.
