After the previous giveaway, where we shared 4 vinyl records by Croatian producers, INSITE Croatia has collaborated with two young Croatian academic artists – Hana Hanak and Monika Milas. These two artists will be gifting their paintings on canvas to one of you. To participate in this giveaway, simply follow the steps in our Instagram post.
Here is more information about the artists and the paintings they are giving away:
Hana Hanak – “PARTY” 2021 or 2024?? (acrylic and charcoal on canvas) 40×30 cm
Hana graduated in 2021 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. During and after her studies, she exhibited at group and solo exhibitions and participated in various art residencies, including “Deconstruction of the Image” in Leipzig (2022). She has exhibited her works at solo exhibitions: Welcome Home; House of Dubašlian Heritage, Malinska, Island of Krk (2024), CEKAO Gallery (2023), Usput Gallery (2022), and group exhibitions: at the 6th International Triennial of Self-Portrait, Prica Gallery, POU SAMOBOR (2024), Kortil Gallery, Rijeka (2023), Siva Gallery (2022), and others. Notably, her participation in the DA!Festival earned her awards, with her works displayed at the Museum of Contemporary Art. While her main focus is painting, she often experiments with different media. She has explored AI, clay, and ready-made objects, but her anchor point always returns to drawing.
“‘PARTY’ was created in 2021, after the pandemic and earthquakes. I went out a lot and partied, while also searching for my own ‘recognizable’ style. Actually, this was a period of self-discovery, and the pink color appeared by itself, by chance, in 2024. I feel that this piece symbolically concluded that period, as sometimes you just have to let things happen, and the solutions come naturally,” Hana said about her painting.
Monika Milas – “Rhythm” 2024 (acrylic, ink, spray on wood panel) 50×50 cm
Monika Milas graduated in 2022 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. From 2019 to 2021, she was a member of the audiovisual collective MediumMovement, where she started exhibiting and creating installations in clubbing spaces. Currently, she works independently and most often exhibits sculptural installations in space, drawings, and visual art in 3D projections and VJ-ing visuals. In 2022, she started successful collaborations with various important actors on the Croatian electronic scene, such as Miniwal, Hybrida, Princip.ba, the Klubskascena.hr portal, Volta, Metz Attack, We Love Sound, and our first event. She exhibited at several group exhibitions in Croatia, of which she stands out: Art Zagreb and the Youth Salon as a member of the MediumMovement and currently, SNOP, and solo exhibitions in Zagreb: Lauba (2019), Garaža Kamba (2021) and Galerija Matice Hrvatske (2022). Two years ago she was nominated for the Ambasador Award for the best art production in the region and this year for a special contribution to the scene. Monika’s abstract art (visuals, graphics, and installations) and contribution to the whole creative scene have left a significant mark in Croatia.
“Ritam was created this year when I found this wood board in front of my atelier. I wanted to experiment with a new material and play with the contrast of light and darkness. I turned my art installations to 2D and tried to express the dynamic and emotion through red lines that are breaking through the dark surface. This is the dynamic of my work, therefore it is its rhythm (Ritam)”, Monika explained.
