Apple Music has introduced AutoMix, a new feature aimed at giving playlists the smooth flow of a DJ set. Rolling out with the latest iOS 26 update, it uses AI to match tempo, rhythm, and structure between tracks for seamless playback. Apple says the system, built on its Apple Intelligence framework, is capable of creating its own transitions between songs in a way that mimics how a DJ would work the decks.
For fans of electronic music, this is a welcome change. AutoMix keeps the energy flowing between songs without interruptions, giving a listening experience closer to a club set or a festival stream. Unlike some “AI DJ” tools, it doesn’t add commentary or voiceovers – the focus stays on the music.

While its main rival Spotify introduced a “crossfade” option back in 2012, that tool simply overlaps the start and end of tracks. Apple claims AutoMix goes a step further, analysing the music in more detail to build more natural, track-specific blends.
Early feedback from listeners has been mostly positive, but not without complaints. Some say AutoMix can cut too much from a track – often 20 to 30 seconds – meaning certain intros or outros are lost. Others feel the transitions work best on straightforward tracks but can be awkward with songs that have unusual endings or tempo changes.
AutoMix works on playlists and Apple Music stations, but not on full albums. Users can turn it on or off in settings, so those who prefer the old style of playback can keep it.
Whether seen as a step towards smarter streaming or just a quality-of-life upgrade, AutoMix is clearly aimed at those who value a consistent, uninterrupted listening experience, especially in genres where flow and rhythm matter most.
