Zagreb is adding something new to its cultural calendar this year – the first ever Zagreb Museum Weekend (MUV), happening from September 4th to 7th. For four days, the city’s museums will open their doors with free entry and a full program of events designed for all generations.
The first edition of this event is tied to an important anniversary: the 175th year since the unification of Gradec and Kaptol, a historic moment that shaped modern Zagreb.

Eleven museums founded by the City of Zagreb are taking part, each adding their own twist. Alongside regular exhibitions, visitors can expect guided tours, creative workshops, themed walks through the city, and talks that bring history and art into everyday conversation. Everything runs daily from 10 am to 8 pm, and no ticket is required.
The program starts on Thursday evening in the courtyard of the Nikola Tesla Technical Museum with a performance from synth-pop duo Pocket Palma, and wraps up on Sunday with the opening of the exhibition Gothic and Renaissance Goldsmithing in Zagreb at the Museum of the City of Zagreb.

Between those two points, the schedule is packed. There are daily “Time Machine” walks through medieval Gradec, workshops for children and adults, and even a Zagreb-themed quiz hosted by well-known quizmaster Morana Zibar. For anyone who prefers something more hands-on, there’s a graffiti workshop in the mix too. The full program is available here!

To make moving around easier, free train rides will be available on the Savski Marof – Zagreb Main Station – Dugo Selo line for anyone attending the event.
On the official webpage, visitors can also find practical tips for getting around. There are suggested routes and guidelines for reaching the museums on foot, by bicycle, tram, or train – making it easy to plan the weekend without worrying about logistics.
Museum Weekend is planned as more than just a one-time project. The ambition is to create a new cultural tradition for Zagreb, one that signals the start of autumn and brings museums closer to everyday life in the city.
