Klara Barbarić, known by her artist name Kali, is a Zagreb-based DJ who has been active on the scene for eight years. After various gigs for renowned festivals and events, such as Sonus Festival, We Love Sound, BSH, No Guestlist and many more, she turned a page in her electronic music career and released her first EP last week, ‘ First Pulse’.
Her first edition is a mix of five tracks are a great overview of who she is as a DJ and an artist – showcasing faster techno BPMs with various vocals, house melodies, groovy vibes and punchy beats, creating absolute bangers for every dancefloor. We had a chat with Kali about her debut as a producer, inspiration, artistic process and future plans.
“Of course, everything started without any big expectations from the production itself, I received basic instructions on how everything works and learned about the process. After a couple of days, I started producing one song per day to practice…“, Kali tells us. For a fresh producer, she stated that her process was short but really intensive, as she realized the style she was into after only 15 tracks. “The whole process lasted about a month and a half. As for the EP itself, I finished it in 3 weeks – maybe I had beginner’s luck this time😁”.

According to Kali, her inspiration for ‘First Pulse’ comes from her constant digging, especially the tracks from the past century, that significantly enriched her sets. “The biggest inspiration for me was actually the fact that the music you make remains somewhere. To this day, I like to search and dig bangers from 1996 and similar years and I am grateful to those producers for leaving such a mark. After almost 30 years I managed to find their gams that enriched my time“, she explains.
“I don’t know how to characterize my musical style, but I know that I went directly with the goal to promote high BPM and techno backgrounds, but really with a dose of house elements, ghetto, funky, groovy, etc. Many people consider high BPMs and techno to be monotonous, boring, too fast, but I have always looked at it completely the opposite, and I will try to continue to show that through my production”, Kali stated, adding that the future plans are only moving forward.
After great feedback and support from the community, Kali announced the next releases in the next couple of weeks. “I will now release a free download on Soundcloud for the upcoming tracks that I will not publish as EPs. The reactions have encouraged me I hope to release a new EP in a month“, she announced, thanking everyone who contributed to her career and supported her work.
“There is actually no end, only good beginnings!“, Kali concluded while keeping us hanging for her new releases, which will, judging by her debut, sound very promising.
