This weekend marks a month anniversary since Zagreb’s new club Lift opened, and they are preparing a girls-only lineup. As Tin Trucek, the program manager, stated previously, the club is open for collaboration with local DJs and producers which they plan to showcase every weekend. Inspired by other events such as Girls Night in Depo showcasing female techno DJs, they started a ‘GirlsParty‘ as part of Levels residency that showcases more house sound. For the first event of the kind, Lift invited four local DJs, including Ska, Arya P, Anja and Dvornikova.
“I singled out Arya, Dvornykova and Anja from all inquiries, and then it dawned on me why I shouldn’t single them out as a solo act, and not “merge” them into a “regular” resident evening. I’ve known SaÅ¡ka (Ska) for a long time and we work together for Elektrotechnika, so it was logical for me to include her in the story as a girl with a bit more experience”, Tin Trucek explained. He pointed out that he thinks female DJs in Croatia should have more support and space on the scene.
“We’ll definitely be doing GirlsParty again; the tentative plan is at some interval from once every month to a month and a half”, he announced.
Anja Dominic, known as Anja, recently recorded a guestmix for our platform and shared her views about the upcoming Saturday.
“On Saturday, there will be no standard sets – all the girls will play at once, as soon as they get an idea for the next track, they play it so we will all be behind the decks through the night. I personally like it a lot because it’s much more dynamic and fun for us to make people dance like that”, she explained.
The girls didn’t know each other before, but after one gathering in the club they connected and realised each other styles and music preferences. ” We have Dvornykova and Arya, who play Chicago/Classic House, and Ska, who was and is in the Techno/Trance scene, but knows house very well, so it wasn’t too difficult to find that Levels sound”, Anja added.
We were wondering how she feels about the position of female DJs in Croatia. She stated that she thinks there should be more events for the promotion of female DJs and that it is slowly moving in that direction.
“Although I’ve been in the DJ world for a very short time and I don’t know how it was a few years ago, I’m glad to see that more and more women want to do DJing and that kind of music”, Anja concluded.
Entrance is free for women and includes a free bottle of champagne. In case you are a guy, you can grab your ticket for the upcoming event via the Core event platform. More information is available on the club’s social networks.
