Last weekend Zagreb’s tram transformed itself in a club with a monthly event ‘Jam the Tram’. DJ Butterfly Jam throwed another successful party and an experience that attracts various audience, including locals, tourists and people who don’t generally listen to electronic music, but are up for the ride.
The two-hour-long ride started at 9 P.M. in front of Regular bar (Britanac station). As the tickets are all inclusive, the tram was packed with mixers and beers, and people started to find their place. The tram did not look at its usual self, as it was filled with led tubes and the lights were off. We continued our ride throughout central Zagreb to Maksimir. Passing through mail square (Ban Jelacic Square), Draskoviceva and Subiceva street, Kvaternik square to Maksimir stadium, it was amazing to watch positive reactions from locals who were passing by, who couldn’t hide their surprise. While they were waving to us and filming the tram, we arrived to the first turnaround next to the Zagreb Zoo, the tram opened its doors and everyone used it for the cigarette break while the organisers were filling up the tanks with drinks.
After our first ‘pit stop’, we continued our way back to the central Zagreb, returning to Draskoviceva and driving in direction of Zagreb’s main bus station. After the second stop on Vukovarska street, we were on our way back towards the main square where we had the final break on Strossmayer square that is a part of Zagreb’s ‘green belt’. After circling around the West train station and Square of the Victims of Fascism, locally called ‘dzamija’, we found our way back to our initial station in front of Regular bar, where the journey began.
Throughout the whole ride, DJ Butterfly Jam served a great selection of (mostly) tech house, mixing trending electronic music tracks, old hits, and remixes that were a perfect match for the audience. All in all, we were amazed by the organisation of the event – starting from timing, tram’s light, sound and decor, selection of drinks, music and ‘pit stops’; the crew took care of all aspects. Jam the Tram is the perfect opportunity to experince the city in a completely different way, both for locals and tourists, having a clubbing set-up in Zagreb’s most popular public transport – the tram.
