Zadar has a whole new event series that supports a great cause while creating a ‘Boiler Room’ atmosphere – Loveroom. Their first event was on December 12 in which they showcased ‘Yugodisco’ hits in modern remixes (house, electronica). The inspiration for the project comes from Boiler Room and Mixmag, mixing music styles such as the ones by Masters at Work, the Martinez brothers and Chicago house classics from the 90s. We chatted with Loveroom’s founder, Karlo Knežević, about the idea behind the project and future plans.
“Loveroom was born solely out of love for music. This love has followed me since childhood – even as a child I collected CDs and tapes, and music was always a part of my day, from morning to midnight. As a young man, I started working in the legendary Zadar cafe Kult, where I discovered house music for the first time. Since then, the days have been filled with Shazam, Boiler Room sets, Defected releases and 90s classics. Years later, I became a manager in the same cafe, organizing concerts, live gigs and various events“, Karlo explained.
Besides his continuous passion for music, he argues that Zadar misses venues and events that support electronic music in general, so he invites local talents as Benjamin Milić, whose interpretation of music is similar to his style. “The Zadar scene, unfortunately, is still dominantly focused on trash and folk music. I believed that combining house music with our vocals could bring something new and exciting. That’s how Loveroom was born – from the desire to leave a mark of kindness and love on my hometown“, Karlo said, adding that visuals, photos and videos carry the retro spirit of Zadar, which emphasizes the connection with the city.
“Our mission is to change the Zadar music scene and show that house is not “tuc-tuc” music, but an experience full of energy and togetherness. There is no room for judgment at Loveroom events – everyone comes to dance, have fun and feel safe”, said the founder of Loveroom.
Humanitarian Focus
Loveroom was never conceived as a project that serves only to make money, as their main goal is to combine a night out with humanitarian action. “We donate all proceeds from ticket sales to charity. At our first event, the funds collected were donated to the Zadar animal shelter, and the food was taken to our paws. This is the basis of the Loveroom concept – every event has a humanitarian goal“.
At their next event, they decided to support the Zadar Home for Education and help children who grow up without parents. The event will take place at the same location as the first, but with an even higher production level. “After that, we are preparing something completely new and never seen before in Zadar. However, you will have to wait a little longer for the details – I promise it will be worth the wait!“, Karlo announced.
