Last Saturday, we visited Zagreb’s Boogaloo for the opening of the Future Scope season. With two floors and a 10-hour program featuring renowned international and local DJs, Future Scope set the bar high from the start and began to deliver on the promise of its strongest season yet.
The main floor was dedicated to harder techno beats, helmed by the increasingly popular Bulgarian Christian Craken and Slovenian star DJ and producer Umek. These two headliners certainly lived up to their billing, but our local performers and residents, Shipe and DJ Jock, sounded just as world-class. Shipe opened the night, warming up the crowd and setting the stage for Christian Craken, who delivered a two-hour set in his signature style, filled with intense beats deepened by atmospheric sounds like synths. The set was somewhat hypnotic, gradually building up and getting the full main floor crowd dancing.
After Craken, Slovenian Umek took over the DJ booth and quickly raised the crowd’s heart rate with much harder and faster techno rhythms, occasionally breaking it up with various hits. The main floor closed in style, with DJ Jock once again impressing his audience with powerful, progressive techno full of melodic sounds, bringing energy to the room packed with a crowd that was definitely not ready to go home after his set.
Though the second floor was smaller and had a slightly softer sound, it was by no means any less valuable. The floor was opened by the beloved Zagreb artist Elena Mikac with her house set, and at 3 a.m., Romanian DJ and producer Mihai Popoviciu took over the decks. For years, he has maintained a high standard of quality in his sets, which he demonstrated that night with energetic and danceable rhythms. The small room served as a perfect break from the fast pace of the main floor, with Serbian DJ Una Andrea contributing with a deeper sound from 5 a.m. until 7 a.m., when Shipe joined her at the booth, and together, they kept the crowd dancing non-stop until 9 a.m.
The effort from Future Scope was clear that night, with a packed lineup and performances that kept the crowd entertained until morning, with dancers and a fire show, complemented by dynamic effects from the new light set at Boogaloo.
The next Future Scope event is scheduled for October 18th, when they’ll host the Fckng Serious label and their representatives, Ann Clue and Julian Wassermann. Tickets for this event are on sale, and you can follow the rest of their events through our event calendar.
