This weekend was dedicated to honoring artists in the music industry. After our local artists were awarded with the Elector award this Saturday, the globally renowned Grammy Awards also took place yesterday.
The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, with Kendrick Lamar taking home the most golden trophies, winning five major awards. Right behind him was Beyoncé, who made history by winning her first Grammy for Album of the Year with her country album ‘Cowboy Carter‘. Surprisingly, both Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish went home empty-handed this year.
In the Best Dance Pop Recording category, Charli XCX won with her song ‘Von Dutch‘ from her latest album ‘Brat‘, which also secured her the Best Dance/Electronic Album award. These are the first Grammys for Charli XCX, who has been in the spotlight with her new album. She was also nominated in several other categories, including Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for ‘Guess‘ (featuring Billie Eilish), Best Pop Solo Performance (Apple), and Best Music Video and Record of the Year for ‘360‘. At the ceremony, Charli XCX performed two songs: her winning track ‘Von Dutch‘ and ‘Guess‘.
The Best Dance/Electronic Recording award went to ‘Neverender‘, the opening track of Justice’s fourth studio album ‘Hyperdrama‘, a collaboration with Kevin Parker of Tame Impala.
In the Best Remixed Recording category, British producer Mark Ronson and Australian production duo FNZ won for their remix of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso‘.
The ceremony also highlighted the recent wildfires in LA, raising $7 million for wildfire relief efforts. Artists and the audience paid tribute to LA firefighters, who received a standing ovation when they took the stage. Two firefighters even presented one of the night’s biggest awards – Album of the Year, which was won by Beyoncé.
