Legendary British DJ and electronic music pioneer Carl Cox has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours List, recognising his outstanding contribution to music and broadcasting.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in global dance music, Cox has spent more than four decades shaping the electronic music scene through his performances, radio broadcasts, and support for emerging talent. His career has taken him from the UK’s underground rave movement to headline appearances at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and clubs.
The honour places Cox among a select group of cultural figures recognised for their impact on British society and the arts. Following the announcement, the DJ expressed his gratitude, describing the award as a deeply meaningful recognition of a lifelong dedication to music.
Cox’s OBE is widely seen as a milestone not only for his career but also for electronic dance music, a genre that has grown from underground roots into a major force in global culture. The new OBE is set to perform in Croatia this summer in the impressive setting of Cave Romane in Vinkuran on August 7th.
