At Botaničar in Zagreb, you can visit the exhibition ADHD – Pool of Thoughts by Klara Rusan, known artistically as Klarxy, throughout the entire summer. In addition to the exhibition, you can also see a mural titled SUNGRILLER 2025, which subtly hints at the warning of climate change in the background, while also humorously portraying the somewhat Sisyphean nature of summer barbecuing – something we all end up doing on vacation, whether intentionally or by accident.
Through this exhibition, the illustrator communicates her stream of consciousness – telling the story of a mind shaped by ADHD. She visually represents the intrusive and unstoppable thoughts that disrupt her daily life as a result of the disorder.
As Journal reports, a few years ago Klara used the metaphor of an Olympic-sized swimming pool (representing the brain) overcrowded with swimmers (representing thoughts) to explain to friends how her mind works. After receiving an official diagnosis, she decided to use that same metaphor as the starting point for what may become a long-term, even lifelong, artistic project.
The idea behind this exhibition is that it will continuously evolve. Klarxy began with pencil drawings and illustrations made with ink and white acrylic, but leaves the door open to later expanding into digital illustration, printmaking, or painting. Sometimes the works will be small-scale, and other times they’ll stretch across multi-meter-long walls. All of it reflects the spirit of ADHD, a dynamic, ever-changing omnibus of experiences and stories.
You can visit the exhibition at Botaničar until early September.
