Pioneer’s limited edition DJ controller designed by Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White™, which was released about four years ago with a market value of $1,700, is now worth almost $6,000—and its price continues to rise.
The DDJ-1000-OW, the controller designed by Off-White’s founder Virgil Abloh, is functionally identical to the DDJ-1000. However, it is currently being sold on StockX auctions for over $12,000, while in the previous auction it sold for $5,784, and on eBay it’s listed for about $4,500.
Virgil Abloh had previously collaborated with Pioneer when he designed transparent CDJs, though that limited collection was never available for sale. Abloh used that equipment while recording his set at the Louis Vuitton afterparty.
For the controller’s design, Virgil Abloh was inspired by the concept of sound engineering and created equipment that explores the unity and harmony of music.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to bring together technology and human interaction. And this time, we took it one step further with ‘SOUND ENGINEERING,’ bringing together this medium that unites so many of us with a fashion element,” Abloh said at the time.
Although not particularly special in terms of its functions, this rare piece in an asymmetrical white and orange color combination is a valuable collectible in the world of music equipment.
