The opening of the exhibition Draft Paintings by Lav Paripović will take place on March 20 at 8 PM at the Gallery of Klub Kocka, located in Dom Mladih Split. The exhibition will be open for one week, until March 27, and can be visited from Monday to Friday during the gallery’s working hours, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Paripović’s work consists of a series of Stop-motion videos that capture sequences of painting interventions performed on a single surface. These video pieces are projected onto the gallery walls, while physical elements – wall paintings – are also present in the space, forming an immersive installation. The exhibition setup establishes a dialogue between images in time (video) and images in space (material traces), making the gallery space not just a site of presentation but an extension of the artwork itself.
In his work, the artist manipulates the perception of images through color and graphic elements, while the Stop-motion technique creates an authentic experience for the viewer. Due to the visual dynamism created not only by the paintings but also by the gallery space, walls, projections, and light reflections, Paripović’s works remain “unfinished,” offering a new impression each time depending on time, space, and perspective.
Lav Paripović is a visual artist and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He is the recipient of the HDLU Young Artist Award (2016) and the Kontrapunkt Vladimir Dodig Trokut – Iva Vraneković Award (2024). His work spans painting, video, and spatial interventions. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including CMYK at Galerija Flora, Dubrovnik (2022); Totalka at Galerija SC, Zagreb (2018); No Comment at Diocletian’s Cellars, Split (2018); the 2024 Youth Salon Pao sat u bunar at HDLU, Zagreb; OSTRALE Biennale in Dresden (2021); DRAW – International Exhibition of Contemporary Drawing at MKC Split (2022); and the 3rd and 4th Painting Biennial at HDLU, Zagreb (2015, 2017).
The exhibition is curated by Jelena Šimundić Bendić.
