Ilica is one of the longest and oldest streets in the heart of Zagreb, a busy street also considered the city’s commercial hub. This Sunday, November 24th, the last event of this year’s Q’ART Ilica, will take place there, hosting over 400 exhibitors from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Each event in this series is dedicated to one of UNESCO’s selected goals, and this week’s theme is “Gender Equality – Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls,” focusing on the importance of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all.
With the support of numerous artists and creatives, the event will once again attract thousands of visitors to Ilica, offering a unique opportunity to discover innovative art pieces, handmade crafts, designer items, art installations, exhibitions, and workshops. The program will feature workshops, fashion shows, and a music program dedicated to equality and empowering women, with a focus on eliminating gender barriers. Visitors will also have the chance to find something completely innovative, artistic, and unique to give as a gift to their loved ones during this pre-holiday season.
The authors, Ivana Nikolić and Aleksandar Battista Ilić, founders of Project Ilica: Q’ART, have once again proven that culture and art can be powerful tools for social change. The Project Ilica: Q’ART was created as a platform connecting art, culture, and socially engaged themes, making Ilica a place for meetings, dialogue, and positive change. Thanks to their dedicated work, Project Ilica: Q’ART has become a space for the exchange of ideas, raising social awareness, encouraging solidarity, and serving as a form of social protest, where artists and creatives have a place for affirmation and realization.
The program offers a diverse schedule of events and activities. At the Art Point, from 9 AM to 4 PM, visitors will be able to view exhibitions by students of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Textile Technology Faculty, while an exhibition of children’s works from the mARTina workshop will be on display at Ilica 73.
The music program includes various performers at several locations: Joe Pandur Organic3 at 10:45 AM at Ilica 49, DJ Tomas at 12:00 PM at Ilica 85, Spirologija at 11:00 AM at Ilica 116, and Davor Doležal Quartet at 1:00 PM at British Square.
A fashion show will take place from 12:00 to 12:45 PM on the eastern side of British Square, featuring sections of ULUPUH for textiles, clothing design, and jewelry, as well as the “Zeleni balon” collection by Milena Rogulj and the autumn collection by La Bestia.
For younger visitors, a children’s program will be held from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with an art workshop (Art of Fun) and social games (Planet Zabave) at Ilica 122, as well as a visit from firefighters from DVD Kustošija at Ilica 109, where children can enjoy educational activities.
The organizers invite visitors to participate in the Project Ilica: Q’ART and join the celebration of art, creativity, and equality, supporting gender equality as the foundation for a better society for all.
The themes of all previous events have focused on sustainability and reducing inequality, and this Sunday, the Project Ilica will address a similar and important issue: “Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. Ensuring equal access to education, healthcare, and dignified work for women and girls, as well as their representation in political and economic decision-making processes, will stimulate a sustainable economy and bring benefits to society and humanity as a whole. Therefore, all forms of discrimination, violence, and exploitation of women and girls, in both the public and private spheres, must be eliminated,” as stated on their official website.
