Inspired by the lack of a tech house scene in northwestern Croatia and a deep passion for music and dance, a young team from Varaždin decided to create their own event brand, Tech Grooves. Their first event of 2025 will take place this week, on Friday, 24 January, in Čakovec in Arcus Graba, featuring the increasingly popular Lalita Kali as the headliner.

“Our motivation for founding Tech Grooves lies in sharing our love for music with the audience and revitalising the local scene, thereby strengthening the Croatian music scene. We focus on house, tech house, and deep tech genres, which are currently underrepresented in Varaždin. We aim to bring the vibe, energy, and production we’ve experienced at parties and festivals across Europe to the people in our region,” said the Tech Grooves team.
Who are Tech Grooves?
The team comprises talented residents: Silvio Čelik, aka DJ STEEL, and Noa Pehnec, aka DJ LIMEE. A crucial role in their team is played by Izabela Hegedušić – IZI, responsible for the brand’s visual identity. Leading the team is Sebastijan Kostanjevac, better known as DJ BOSE, who, with experience gained from organizing Technoworkout, decided to forge his own path and invest his passion into what he truly loves.

We spoke with Sebastijan, who shared insights about the upcoming event and the future of Tech Grooves.
How would you describe the electronic scene in Varaždin?
The electronic scene in Varaždin isn’t as developed as in some larger cities, but there’s significant potential. In the past, the city had a strong electronic scene, especially through the legendary club EX, which was the epicenter of entertainment and a gathering place for electronic music enthusiasts. That period left a lasting impact on many who later ventured into event organization and scene development. Today, the scene is slowly reviving, with young organizers and DJs creating space for new ideas and initiatives.

One current challenge in Varaždin is the lack of venues for larger electronic events, which is why we organize events in nearby Čakovec. Through Tech Grooves, we aim to further build and revitalize the electronic scene in northwestern Croatia. Given the growing interest in electronic music and increasing attendance, we believe the future of the scene in Varaždin is bright.
Can you tell us more about your upcoming event? What are your expectations?
Our first event in 2025 is coming to Čakovec on 24 January, for the second time at the newly renovated iconic Arcus Graba! The headliner of the evening will be Lalita Kali, a techno DJ and producer from Croatia, who has performed at clubs, festivals, and underground events across Croatia and Slovenia. She will prepare a special tech house set, and her performance will surely leave no one indifferent. The warm-up will be handled by local guys DISCO DEVIL and VJERAN T in a b2b set, followed by the young LIMEE from Koprivnica. Closing the night will be our residents, the groove duo BOSE and STEEL. The event starts at 9 PM and lasts until the early morning hours.
Our expectations are that this event will be another step in strengthening Tech Grooves and the regional electronic scene, attracting lovers of quality music and production.
What are your plans for the coming year? What can the audience expect from Tech Grooves in the future?
In the coming year, we plan to organize more events in Varaždin, Čakovec, and other cities, focusing on quality production and bookings. The audience can expect new names on our stage. We will remain dedicated to top-notch sound systems, visuals, and creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Tech Grooves will continue to build a community of lovers of this type of music and provide a unique experience at each event.
