There’s been a growing overlap between Formula 1 and electronic music for a while now. From headline DJ sets at Grand Prix weekends to brand collaborations and afterparties, the connection feels natural – fast-paced, high-production, global. The upcoming F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, leans into that link with F1: The Album, a soundtrack ceated with names like Tiësto, Dom Dolla, Peggy Gou, and PAWSA.
The Plot
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), the film stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a veteran driver who returns to the track after retiring in the 1990s. His mission? Mentor a young rising star, Joshua Pearce (played by Damson Idris), for the fictional APXGP team. The film, co-produced by Lewis Hamilton, was shot during actual Formula 1 race weekends to give it the realism and intensity the sport demands – on and off the track.
Formula 1 Weekends
While the racing remains the heart of every Grand Prix, what surrounds it has grown. Today, F1 weekends are full-scale cultural events that blend sport with nightlife, fashion, and music. The Monaco Grand Prix earlier this month is a perfect example.
Across three days, the city played host to sets from Solomun, Rampa, and Black Coffee, as well as performances from global stars like Future and Travis Scott. Clubs like Jimmy’z Monte-Carlo featured lineups including Argy, Mochakk, Marco Carola, Blond:ish, and Carlita. At the beachside SUNSET event, PAWSA, Honey Dijon, and Parallelle kept the energy going.
And this isn’t just Monaco. Races in Abu Dhabi, Miami, Singapore, and Las Vegas are also embracing full-scale music programming – with electronic music leading the charge. At this year’s Miami Grand Prix, a fan activation zone was built around F1: The Album, complete with racing simulators, live sets, and appearances from featured artists.
The collaboration between Formula 1 and electronic music isn’t just marketing as it reflects how both worlds have grown and where they overlap. Electronic music has moved far beyond nightclubs and festivals. It’s shaping the sound of fashion shows, brand campaigns, films, and now major sports. At the same time, Formula 1 has become more than just a race. It’s fast, high-intensity, and built for massive live and digital audiences – a perfect match for the energy and scale of electronic music.
