After the City of Zagreb’s decision to close Kino Europa in 2019, much to the dissatisfaction of the city’s residents, the renovation of this iconic Zagreb cinema in the city center was announced.
The renovation is expected to take a year and a half. “The hall will be equipped with the latest audiovisual technology and will be able to host other cultural programs,” stated the City officials, and the estimated cost of the project is 11.6 million euros.

In 2008, Kino Europa was entrusted to the Artistic Organization of the Zagreb Film Festival for management, and after eleven successful years, it was unexpectedly closed in June 2019. Until now, the City of Zagreb’s budget did not include funds for the cinema’s renovation, but the situation has now changed.
