In a significant move to address the escalating issue of hearing loss among music professionals, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, in collaboration with Sweetwater, has introduced the Hearing Health Fund. This initiative aims to provide essential hearing health resources to musicians and industry workers, acknowledging that approximately 40% of individuals in the music sector suffer from noise-induced hearing loss.
Continuous exposure to high decibel levels in concerts, studios, and rehearsals has made hearing impairment a prevalent occupational hazard in the music industry. Studies indicate that 70% of music venue staff are subjected to noise levels exceeding daily recommended limits, yet only 15% consistently use hearing protection. Dr. Todd Page, Sweetwater’s in-house physician, emphasizes the irreversible nature of hearing damage, stating, “Once the damage is done, there’s no going back to ‘normal.’ It’s heartbreaking telling a fellow musician their tinnitus isn’t fixable.”

Aric Steinberg, Executive Director of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, highlights the program’s preventive focus: “Music-induced hearing loss and disorders are 100% preventable. Our free hearing health screenings are another way for Sweet Relief to care for musicians and to help ensure that people of all income levels have access to quality medical resources.”
Musicians and industry professionals interested in the Hearing Health Fund can apply through the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund website. The application process is straightforward, ensuring that support is accessible to those in need.
